C. ECO-AUDIT AND MONITORING PROGRAMMES.
Marine Ecological Surveys Ltd. has carried out numerous eco-audit and environmental impact monitoring programmes over the past 29 years for major projects worldwide. These have typically involved a series of up to 10 surveys per year, each requiring a full evaluation of the impact of coastal development projects on community structure, fisheries and wildlife resources. The results are confidential to clients, but have been summarised in some cases in the international literature by our staff in collaboration with clients.
Dr.Newell is a Member of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) Science Audit Team (SAT) to report on the quality of science provided by the Centre for the Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) Laboratories.
D. PROVISION OF EXPERT TESTIMONY.
Dr.Newell provided expert testimony during 1999 at a Public Inquiry on behalf of East Sussex County Council in connection with the impacts of waste discharge on marine resources of the south coast of the UK.
We were also engaged by Enichem UK Ltd in 2001 to provide expert advice on the benthic and intertidal biology of the area adjacent to the Enichem site in relation to the Dibden Bay Public Inquiry.
Most recently, Dr. Newell provided expert testimony on the benthic and epibenthic biological resources of the lower Thames Estuary & the potential impact of the proposed London Gateway Port Project. MESL also prepared the baseline benthic & epibenthic biological programme for this development. These data were used in the preparation of the Environmental Statement. Details of the PI Programme and documentation are available on the Planning Inspectorate website:- http://www.planning-inspectorate.gov.uk/gateway/inquiry/outline.htm
