Bryan Wasson, Senior Marine Taxonomist at Marine Ecological Surveys Limited (part of Gardline), has over 12 years experience in the field of taxonomic identification of marine and estuarine benthic macrofauna.

KEY EXPERIENCE

  • During his career he has processed a great many samples mostly from the UK and Ireland, with his habitat experience ranging from the intertidal to over 1100m depth, stretching geographically from County Cork and the Scilly Isles in the south west to the Shetland Islands and the Faroe-Shetland trench in the north
  • The range of projects covered includes the oil and gas industries, fisheries, aggregates, renewables, construction, coastal mangement and research
  • For a previous employer he and a colleague set up and successfully ran a second benthic laboratory. This included managing projects, conducting interviews and training staff
  • Bryan spent two years in self employment which, being an isolated position consolidated his knowledge, skills and self reliance which transferred smoothly into remote employment with MES
  • During his final year University project Bryan conducted a mudflat survey in conjunction with the Natural History Museum for Kent Wildlife Trust to help balance migratory bird populations and human activities
  • As a volunteer at Sherkin Island Marine Station, Bryan conducted macrofaunal surveys of the mudflat habitats and managed a colleague’s sandy shore survey
