Emma Delduca, Labratory Supervisor at Marine Ecolgical Surveys Ltd (part of Gardline), has 7 years experience of taxonomic identification of marine benthic fauna and epifauna. Emma previously worked at Unicomarine for 3 years as a Senior Biologist analysing benthic samples and training junior staff.
KEY EXPERIENCE
- Sample collection, separation, identification and enumeration of fauna from intertidal and subtidal projects around the UK
- Experience in offshore oil and gas projects, renewable energy and aggregate licence monitoring
- Management of projects and allocation to tasks, including tendering phase and laboratory analyses by the MESL taxonomy staff
- Responsible for the quality assurance of the identification carried out in the laboratory and collation of in house reference collections
- Taxonomic training of junior staff
- Lead in creation and running of internal identification training workshops at MESL
- Teaching experience through creating and running the first external workshops for the MESL Taxonomy School focussing on Spionidae, Cirratulidae, Introduction to Amphipod families and the MESL Summer School; and coordinations of the Bryozoa expert led course
- Staff member at the Swansea University Field course to Millport Marine Station, teaching undergraduates field survey skills and identification of marine fauna
- Participation in NMBAQC taxonomic workshops
- Responsible for COSHH procedure at MESL and attendance at COSHH training course
- Volunteer work identifying fauna from the artificial reef Scylla for the National Marine Aquarium to allow the colonisation of the newly sunk reef to be assessed
