The Work in Progress (WIP) Conference 4th-5th November 2009

The Work in Progress (WIP) Conference November 2009
Attended: Dr Lindsay Seiderer, Bryony Pearce, Dr Jacqueline Hill and Ross Griffin

A number of the MESL team attended the Marine Aggregate Levy Sustainability Fund (MALSF) Round 3 (2008-2011) Work in Progress Meeting on HMS Belfast in London. The workshop gave all those involved in the aggregates industry a chance to find out about the research being carried out under this fund, and gave our researchers a chance to present their findings to date. Ross Griffin presented his MALSF funded masters project entitled "The feeding ecology of the common dragnet, /Callionymus lyra/, with particular reference to the impacts of aggregate extraction in the UK". Ross's work builds upon an earlier MALSF research project led by Bryony Pearce and adds value by re-analysing data and samples collected as part of this.

Progress reports will also be given for each of the Regional Environmental Characterisation projects (South Coast, Thames, East Coast & Humber) and MESL will be presenting a poster on our newly awarded research project investigating "Automated mapping of marine habitats from marine sonar and bathymetric data" which is a joint venture with experts at the University of Bristol.
