MES are currently working on a diverse array of research projects

A large part of our work centres on primary research into the impact of major industrial projects, including dredging and marine aggregate mining on benthic biological and fisheries resources.  Here are some of our current research projects:-

  • Impacts of Aggregate Extraction on Adjacent Sabellaria spinulosa Aggregations and other Benthic Fauna.
  • MES are collaborating with Cefas, BGS and others to map areas of the Humber, South Coast and East Coast as part of the RECs for these areas.
  • A Best Practice Review of guidelines for the conduct of benthic studies at aggregates dredging site.  This project is being undertaken in partnership with Cefas.
  • The Effects of Aggregate Dredging on Marine Foodweb Structure and Function - again in collaboration with Cefas.
  • MES has a rich tradition of conducting cutting edge research often in collaboration with other organisations.  This practice enables us to continue to take pride in remaining at the forefront of the marine ecology industry and maintain strong links with industry regulators and agencies.
