Ms. Pearce has been involved in the planning and
co-ordination of a marine habitat survey of Tenerife with divers from
Projecto Ambiental Tenerife. This involved initial species identification,
survey design, database design, and the development of a training manual.
Her final year degree project dealt with the effect of alien long-spined
sea urchin Diadema antillarum population densities on the assemblage
structure of benthic space occupiers in Tenerife.
Bryony holds PADI Advanced Open Water and Photographer
specialist certificates, as well as an HSE Professional Scuba Diver
Certificate, and Oxygen administration and First Aid at Work certificate.
Her research interest is in benthic behavioural ecology. Bryony has a
thorough working knowledge of all Microsoft applications including Word,
Excel, Access and PowerPoint, and has received training in multivariate
community analysis (PRIMER). Bryony has taken on the management of our data
warehouse using the UNICORN database software.
Since joining MESL Bryony has been involved in the sample
collection, separation, identification and enumeration of fauna for
numerous intertidal and subtidal projects around the UK.
Bryony was responsible for the implementation of a sampling
strategy used to investigate the "Impacts of overboard screening on
seabed & associated benthic biological community structure in relation
to marine aggregate dredging" - a research project funded by the
Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) through the Minerals Industry
Research Organisation (MIRO).
Bryony is currently studying for a Ph.D. and is investigating
Sabellaria reefs in order to gain a better understanding of their ecology
and in particular their importance as part of marine food webs. The
information gathered will be used to draft conclusions on best practices
for their management and conservation.
